Nathaniel Shara, LCSW is a somatic therapist, writer and educator whose work focuses on embodiment as a path for individual and social transformation. Nathan has been with Strozzi Institute since 2010 and teaches in the Leadership in Action series, Somatic Bodywork seminars, the new Somatics & Resilience course and SI Teacher Training. A graduate of Smith College and the University of Washington School of Social Work, he has spent the last decade working at the intersections of trauma, mental health, social justice and the body. Nathan has been recognized by the Washington State Society for Clinical Social Work for his thoughtfulness as a clinician, and as a recipient of the Brian M Day Award for gay men of color who demonstrate an exceptional commitment to social justice. Nathan is a senior teacher with generative somatics, partnering with various organizations to bring embodied transformation to US-based social & environmental justice movements. He maintains a small private practice doing somatic healing work, and provides clinical supervision to developing practitioners. He enjoys hiking and camping throughout California, reading voraciously, and spending time with his partner, his cat Juna, and their community of friends.
